Lifecycle Archetype of March: The Little Girl, Living Unburdened by Evil

Associated Lifecycle Stage: Young Child. Exploring in Innocence

Associated Moon Cycle Phase: Quarter Moon, Waxing

Associated Season (Sun Cycle): End of Winter. The days are getting brighter.

Associated Womb Cycle Phase: Follicular Phase

Associated Phase in Cosmological Cycle: After the first stars are born.

Associated Gifts: Embracing innocence and exploration. Living totally unburdened by evil. Creating and imagining, beaming with excitement and joy for life. Extraordinary curiosity.

As we head into March in the Northern Hemisphere, the sun appears to be moving closer to us every day. The land begins to warm, and there are subtle signs that life is returning. The light is expanding. The Earth is becoming more active and less sleepy. There is a feeling of excitement and anticipation for the coming Spring. The feminine lifecycle archetype that rules over this time period is the Little Girl.

Starry-eyed and curious, the Little Girl is a deeply cherished archetype. In her brightest, she is a beaming light that is a joy to experience, as she is totally innocent and unburdened by knowledge of evil. She is sweet and fun and embodied in pure joy for the potential that life is and loves more than anything to play, explore, and share in the delight of life.

In the Cosmological cycle, this archetype is synonymous with when the first stars are created. We are emerging from the Cosmic Dark Ages and entering the birth of stars and their light about .1 to 1 billion years into the Universe’s time-space expansion. Stars are the precursors of galaxies, so this period is vital to the continual formation and evolution of the Universe; as stars form, they create heavier elements and matter and the gravitational force that pulls everything together in groups and clusters, forging galaxies and solar systems, the foundations for life to emerge.

March Moon: the Little Girl

We are entering the New Moon cycle that leads us into and culminates in March. This Piscean moon is watery, imaginative, and explorative. There is a sense and feeling of newness and excitement for the coming seasons. Warmth is returning, and with it, rays of hope.

In this way, we can surrender to the Little Girl inside of us who longs to help us return to a sense of innocence and purity, where we are totally unburdened by the knowledge of evil. It is knowledge of evil that causes us to become soul weary, tired, and contracted from life. The Little Girl is here to light the light of innocence.

Light itself holds a curious nature, as it is unaffected by time or space. Photon particles can not age or be altered by space-time expansion, which is why the speed of light is a standard measurement for the fastest we can possibly travel through space. At light speed, matter has zero mass because light has no mass. It is pure, unaffected by the effects of time-space expansion.

So too is the spirit of the Little Girl. She is synonymous with the emergence of light and is light. Her eternal spirit remains forever youthful and unburdened by the effects of time and space, both of which could be considered, at least in the cosmic grand sense of things, the reason any of us suffer and, therefore, what ails us, what creates the seeds of evil (what is evil but the oppressive nature and heaviness of suffering?). As time and space expand, all that is matter is affected. We age, we experience life, and we die. But our inner light is the part of us untouched by these experiences. It is the part of us that remains forever unchanged, forever youthful, forever light, forever radiant. The part of us that, like proton particles, can never be burdened by evil or affected by time or space.

When we come into contact with this spirit, we are renewed, Hope is restored and the spark of life returns. Like stars, we are born in the light. We become the light of the world.

I am like a star shining brightly

Smiling for the whole world to see

I can do and say

Happy things each day

For I know that the Universe loves me

(Adaptation of I am Like a Star, an LDS children’s hymn)

“You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden. 15 Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead, they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. 16 In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify God in Heaven” (New Testament, Matthew 5:14-16).

When we understand we are the light of the world, that light is in us, and we are light, the potential is unlimited. Our light can create galaxies and expand infinitely into the Universe. We form the foundations for life to emerge from us as conceivers, gestaters, birthers.

The Little Girl rules over the waxing Quarter Moon and, for womb keepers, is associated with the follicular phase, just after menstruation. During this phase, estrogen has returned to our system, and our wombs are now being built up for coming ovulation. We experience expansion in our bodies and system and feel a return of energy and a sense of outward exploration. Life is renewed, and we may feel ready to take on the world. At this time, there is a dance happening inwardly in our endocrine system, as hormones are secreted that signal our wombs and ovaries to take certain actions to prepare for conceiving life. This dance will continue into ovulation and the luteal phase.

The Little Girl Mythical Archetypal Journey:

I invite you to sit or lay down in a comfortable space. Check your space for cues of safety by looking around the room. Notice if there is anything you can do to make yourself more comfortable or feel safer. Find an object or image in your space that brings you comfort and connect with it.

Now, enter into The Stillness within your own being. It is important here to drop into a state of total and complete reverence, knowing you are about to embark on a journey into communion with the potency of the Little Girl, Cosmic Feminine Archetype.

You are standing at the edge of the ocean on a sandy beach on a beautiful sunny day. There are gentle clouds rolling and bobbing all around you. From out of nowhere along the beach, a little girl runs up to you, and, almost as if she is a ray of light, she enters your body and becomes you.

As you become her and she becomes you, vibrant energy overtakes you. You look around the landscape and see a series of rocks leading into the ocean. A spirit of curiosity and wonderment overtakes you, and you run out across the rock. As you cross these rocks, they disappear into the water until you are standing in the middle of the ocean on a single rock.

From all around you, large waves emerge from the still ocean and almost seem to threaten your existence. You look up to the sky, and above your head, the sun descends, smiling upon you. The sun reaches out to you and takes your hand, pulling you up into the Cosmos. All around you are stars bursting into creation, and the sun, your companion and friend, is with you, watching this stellar sight of star creation. Stars burst into being, forming upon cosmic currents and webs of gravitation and dark matter. As each star is born, your mind ignites with possibility and excitement.

The sun gives you a final gift: a mirror. As you look into the mirror, you see that you, too, are a star, a sun. Shining and beaming light all around you.

Now wiggle your toes, legs, hips, and body up to your arms and hands. Move your head from side to side gently and return fully to your body. What was the felt sense of this experience like?

What did you experience in your body in the form of thought, image, sensation, emotion, and movement as you received the symbols of the journey?

You can journal about your experience or simply ponder it. If nothing comes to your mind, that is just fine too. The images and their revelations may come to you more slowly and over time and seasons, even years.
